We are incredibly excited to announce our newest offering, a free monthly lecture series with the second year students at Ohlone Herb School! These lectures are perfect for anyone who is just getting interested in herbalism and want to explore more. Check out the students’ bios here.

Saturday April 1st 12 pm – 1:30 pm
What is herbal medicine and how does it work? This class will answer basic questions about herbal medicine such as how does wellness in a holistic, herb-based treatment differ from what happens at the doctor’s office? How is taking herbs different than taking pharmaceuticals? How do medicinal herbs work? What are herbal medicine traditions and how do they vary? What do we mean by ‘western herbal medicine’?
Saturday May 6th 12 pm – 1:30 pm
Common uses for natural, medicinal herbs, part 1: In this second class we will dive into two ailments that come up often as practitioners in today’s world, sleep and stress. What are some commonly used medicinal herbs for sleep and stress-relief? How do they work? What are some simple preparations that can be made at home?
Saturday June 3rd 12 pm – 1:30 pm
Preparing medicinal herbs to use at home. In this 3rd class, students cover basic medicine making techniques such as teas, infusions, decoctions and tinctures. Why do we take herbs in these different ways? How do we know how to prepare a specific herb?
Saturday July 1st 12 pm – 1:30 pm
Common uses for natural, medicinal herbs, part 2: Our last class is the second part to the May class. In this class students discuss digestion and immune care. What are some commonly used medicinal herbs? How do they work? What are some simple preparations that can be made at home?
We ask that you arrive early if you need a chair as these events will likely end up with standing room only.
